"I own two other slow cookers. I bought this one because it has a 6qt capacity and temperature probe. Several pluses on the design: First there are steam holes in the lid. Without these steam holes you will get a bubbling at the edge of the lid as the steam equalizes with the ambient air. My other two slow cookers do not have steam holes in the lid and it's annoying. As the steam escapes, there is a slight noise and it can get a little messy. The design and size of the bowl are nice for accommodating a medium sized roast. Round slow cookers have a problem with this.The temperature probe can be inserted in four different places. Some of the other slow cookers only have one opening for their temperature probe, which can be a problem. Even if you are not using the temperature probe for a programmed cook, you can use the temperature probe to monitor the temperature of what you are cooking. I have done this when making soups. If the temperature gets too high, you can manually turn it down. As I just bought this slow cooker I cannot comment on its longevity. I can say that the cooker looks like it is constructed well. Lastly I haven't had to travel with this, but another reason why I bought this model was the locking lid. I have to be extremely careful when transporting my other slow cookers to some event, as spilling is always a concern." - Amazon1234
